Hybrid kimono dressing course

A 12-week kimono dressing journey - online and offline

In this course, you will learn to dress yourself in kimono with confidence and independence, while discovering how the fabrics work with your body and personal style.

What you will learn

  • What you will need to wear a kimono

  • How to dress yourself in kimono, step by step

  • Alternatives and practical tools for dressing kimono outside of Japan

  • Understanding each layer and its purpose

  • Foundational obi tying techniques

  • How to adjust shape, balance, and fit

  • How to style kimono in both traditional and contemporary ways

We start with the full flow and gradually introduce techniques throughout the course to refine your dressing technique and silhouette.

Course structure

  • 4 live online sessions and 2 in-person sessions

  • Sessions take place twice a month

  • Intimate small-group format (2–3 participants)

  • Time between sessions to practice independently

In-Person Session

For those able to travel within or to Switzerland, two sessions will be held in person in place of online classes.

The in-person sessions include:

  • Hands-on dressing guidance

  • Personalized adjustments

  • Obi and silhouette refinement

  • Small group or private format

Who this is for

  • Beginners with no prior experience, and feel more comfortable with in-personal guidance

  • Those who want to wear kimono independently

  • Those who have tried before, but struggled alone

  • Anyone drawn to Japanese aesthetics and mindful practice

  • Those who bought a kimono but don’t know where to start

Kimono dressing is both technical and physical.

It requires not only understanding, but repetition—
and small, often subtle adjustments.

The bi-monthly rhythm between sessions gives you time to practice independently, return to the process in your own space, and notice where questions arise naturally.

Live online sessions provide direct guidance while allowing you to practice comfortably from home.

For those able to travel within or to Switzerland, an in-person session offers more detailed and hands-on refinement.

Together, they create a complete learning experience.

The outcome

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Dress yourself in kimono with confidence

  • Understand how to adjust and refine your form

  • Feel confident incorporating kimono into meaningful moments of your life

You will gain a familiarity with the process.

Continuing the Practice

Learning to wear kimono does not end with understanding.

It deepens through repetition—
through returning to the process, and noticing what you like each time.

For those who wish to continue, you will be invited to join a regular online practice circle,
where we dress together, explore variations, and refine what you have learned.
